RICK ROBINSON

www.primitivepop.com

Rick Robinson's steel sculptures are all about fusing opposites. The
jaunty postures and stylized contours of his figures have the
light-footed capriciousness of drawings even as their rusted, rough-hewn and heavy
forms are wrought from raw steel. Their forms combine bulbous sensuality with
a dangerous angularity to create a style that fuses post-pop modern and
ages-old tribal aesthetics, humor and sublime presence, active gesture
and contemplative portraiture, and finally symbol and language - in an
ongoing attempt to decipher the codes human beings have used to communicate with
one another since the start of history. -Shana Nys Dambrot, Los Angeles
