"L.A. River With Pool"
Bamboo, plastic ties, latex paint, plastic cups, water, food coloring and Target Pharmacy Rx identification rings.
Artist's statement:
I make site specific installations as well as in-studio work. I have done two previous large scale installations at the actual L.A. River. In this case, I have brought the L.A. River installation inside. The elements of my piece reflect and comment upon the issues that the L.A. River brings up for me. I like to create an open ended narrative that allows viewers to fill in their own blanks, and perhaps cause them to look at their environment and at art in new ways.
Consider:
The artificiality and control of nature in the concrete L.A. River, the efforts to restore the river to its natural state, how ugly and/or beautiful it is, its past or future inhabitants and neighbors, water use and pollution, 60's swimming pools, drought, etc.
In addition to the comments I wished to make about the L.A. River, "L.A. River With Pool" was very much inspired and influenced by its immediate surroundings.
