Birgitte Moos

Birgitte Moos is a Danish Artist, Painter and Theatre Set Designer, located in
Los Angeles since 2003.

Her newest works, shown here at the Phantom Gallery, is a research into the use
of color, abstract shape and patterns expressed through paintings. Working with 3 dimensional spatial effects, where the perception (of course) depends on the point of view. These paintings are derived from “The Memory Palace Project”. An installation piece, containing over 100 dark paintings, hung inside a wooden construction, people can enter.

The paintings recalls long forgotten memories, and pre-verbal sensations. Dark abstract images, containing elements reminding of late 60’s retro wallpaper: The decade of the no future generation,
materialism, nuclear family and her birth.

The concept of The Memory Palace, was originally developed by the Ancient Greeks, as a method of remembering: A person, were supposed to walk through, and thereafter visually memorize an exsisting location. Store information in this mental palace, in order to memorize and later
pass on content to someone else.
