Beauty, joy and excitement about life is what I want to convey in my work. These paintings begin spontaneously with a curiosity about what will happen as I begin to paint, scraping away parts, leaving other parts exposed, and adding new layers with other layers showing through. It is always a surprise and a thrill to me when subjects begin to emerge that have a sense of identity.This series began after a near death experience from a ruptured brain tumor. After that experience, nothing seemed the same. I am alive and adding new layers to this life everyday, consequently these paintings are a metaphor to how I view life. I love color; deep, rich, intense color, and there is an energy that flows through me that is hard to contain. My intention is for the viewer to experience a renewed sense of joy and excitement in the mysteries of life.
