Artist Statement
My current body of work captures overlooked everyday objects at rest.
Thru the play of light, shadow, and reflection, much emerges that is otherwise hidden in the banality of mundane surfaces. Each holds a hidden and unacknowledged emotional power. They fill our lives yet we rarely examine who we really are as consumers or acknowledge our debt to these objects for bringing us lives of convenience.
Cleaning Supplies
They come in such a wide range of happy colors. Mesmerizing candy colored chemicals encased in a limited range of silhouettes and styles abiding by unspoken golden rules. "Dish soap shalt have a waist line."
The monotype series, Cleaning Supplies I, was first begun in August of 2006. They are printed on a Mailänder proofing press by master printer Francesco X. Siqueiros of El Nopal Press in Los Angeles, California. Each session generates, on average, 2 unique monotypes and 1-3 ghosts from the original oil painting. The series is a continuing work in progress.
