EDUARDO BONILLA

ETHEREAL ICONS
This painting is a composition of symbols: circles and spheres. Geometrical shapes with right angles. All arranged in a way that depicts DNA diagram. The elements are placed to make a figure of a fish which to some beliefs it is a very important symbol. In the middle there is four vertical textured figures that may represent the stereotypical symbol of a family. The painting is made by using texture and layers of colors to make some surfaces give a sensation of ageless or timeless atmosphere Turning the piece into ETHEREAL ICONS

artist statement

An artist should have spirit, ...Because an artist needs spirit to have the qualities to escape from time and space whenever they harm his art; artist should have clean spirit In order to cross over his own social and human limits to create without any pressures or ties imposed by society and life.

Through his works, EDUARDO BONILLA invites us to know his journey on his search in life, a search in which life itself is the main character.

Some paintings might make us feel emotions and sensations that we probably have never felt in a while. The colors are immediately engaging, attractive, even. And yet, get closer, and the colors are not as simple as you might have first thought. Color has depth, texture, complexity. The expression may not be literal or figurative, it may be beyond language, but it is certainly complex. His paintingsare complex in their technique. This complexity is not forbidding or off-putting, however.
There is always something concrete to hang your thought and attention on, the shape of a face, a horizon, doors, ladders, stairs, pools, moons. There is always something offering you a place from which to start, to begin to think about, think in.
