Smilee Barnacle is a Los Angeles based sculptor and performance artist. He is one-half of Barnacle Bros. Sculpture and Custom Fabrication, a company contracting construction of high-zoot art objects, puppets, movie props, scenic and architectural elements. Though specializing in plastics and metal fabrication, he has sculpted a hippopotamus of mud in Italy, hundreds of tiki heads in Mexico, walked on stilts in China, puppeteer in Bali, built a fax machine out of limestone, castles of Foam, fireproof Buddha’s, giant pork chops, miniature donut shops, and glowing meditation orbs. Â Mr. Barnacle is also one-fifth of TRASH BAND, a performance group utilizing the world's most plentiful
resource, your trash, as instruments, puppets, art cars, bicycles, and spooky special effects to sing post-Y2KÂ folk songs. The bicycles presented at the show are both relics of Trash Band performances as well as his musings on mobility, and the design possibilities for pedal-powered vehicles.
