Kirelyn Barber

reviewed by Kim Beil from the March '06 issue of Artweek:

Barber's images are Rorschach tests of personality in relationship.  Her dramatic lighting positions each setting as

one of intensity or gentleness, but teasing out the history or motivation of the scene is an experience unique to every viewer ... [her] ability to address the familiar realm of gender and relationship through non-traditional conceptual means allows greater access to and consideration of the topic than strictly representational or didactic material. Barber's scenes are presented with ease, her thoughtfully composed images are quietly delivered, practiced statements that become questions through their repetition.
