Dori Atlantis and Karen Frimkess Wolff

 

Artists' biographies

       Dori Atlantis grew up in both urban Los Angeles and the rural mountains of Central California.  She was a founding member of the Feminist Art Program under Judy Chicago at California State University, Fresno.  She received both her BFA and MFA from California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. 

      Atlantis works in both site-specific installation and mixed-media sculpture.  She usually works with natural materials such as branches and adobe.  She teaches art to visually-impaired adults at the Braille Institute in Los Angeles. 

      Atlantis has shown throughout the United States.  Some recent installations were a solo installation at Gallery 825, a collaborative installation at Tarfest '06, a collaborative installation at Gallery 825 and installation documentation at the Ontario International Airport. 

      Karen Frimkess Wolff was born in Los Angeles, received her BA in Painting and Drawing from U.C.L.A. and MA in Art History from California State University Northridge.  Her work has been exhibited throughout California, in Washington State and Germany.  In 1991 she received a Los Angeles Cultural Arrairs Grant.  In 1976 she was one of thirty Americans nominated for the Paris Bienniele. 

      Her work consists of drawings, constructions and installations which usually follow natural or landscape forms and often involve an element of sound.  Recent shows include a solo show at Gallery 825 and installation documentation at the Ontario International Airport.
